Dolphin fish, mahi mahi or dorado – welcome! First for this season, well done Elliot and team
Dolphin fish, this is one of our favourites. We catch them on lures and live baits, and are usually found around floating objects such as our FADs, wood, seaweed, fish buoys at sea. Frigate bird diving can also be an indication of the presence of Dolphinfish when there is debris in the water.
Mahi-mahi are carnivorous, feeding on flying fish, crabs, squid, mackerel, and other small fish. They have also been known to eat zooplankton, squid, and crustaceans. And they are growing fast, 1 cm a day!
Great sport fish, beutiful colour, easy to clean and excellent eating qualities. What more could you ask for?
PS Minimum size in NSW Australia is 60 cm so this one obviously went back.
