Fiddler Rays, also known as Banjo Shark :-)

Here is an Eastern Fiddler Ray caught by Tracy. They are found on the east coast from southern Queensland to the eastern Victorian border. We found this one on the offshore reef off Port Hacking. They have a brown body colour with shades of yellow or olive. It has a pattern of pale lilac bands edged with dark brown and a distinctive triangle between and behind the eyes.

Most fiddler rays can be found on reef, sand or seagrass beds where they feed on shelled invertebrates, crabs and worms which they crush between their jaws.
