Fishing our offshore FADs is really FUN!

Other than the last couple of weeks with heavy rain and big seas, April has been good and particularly the late Easter days. Today Easter Monday was sensational with clear sky and calm seas and no wind.

Dez hooked up a nice Samson fish on Middle Ground off Cronulla. They are closely related to yellowtail kings and amberjacks, which look very similar. Juvenile sambos school on offshore reefs in large numbers and grow very quickly. For cooking, they can be steamed, baked or grilled. They can be a little dry, so marinating prevents the flesh drying out. Or bake in foil or banana leaves.

Kirsty from Dubbo did well, as you can see, battling with a nice golden dolphin fish. Just legal at 63 cm and should be a great dinner.

And young Dillan hooked up a striped tuna a couple of weeks ago. They are also known as skipjack, a good fighting fish. Hope it made it to the table as sashimi.  In addition we also took home some mahi mahi. But to preserve the resource we limit the catch to two or three fish per person.
