Rainbow Runners are splendidly coloured fish, which closely resemble their relatives the Kingfish
We hooked up this Rainbow Runner while chasing Kingfish one just north of Marley head land off Cronulla. They are commonly found around offshore reefs, and can be taken with trolled lures as we did. They are a wonderful shaped and coloured fish as well as having great fighting abilities.
And we can tell you that after dinner last night, they are also very good eating with firm white flesh.
As you can see in the picture with Harri, the Rainbow Runner is an elongate fish. It has a large deeply forked tail and the body is green to blue above and white below. It has two light blue stripes on the sides separated by a wider yellow to greenish stripe.
It is a fish normally found in Queensland and we don’t see them often in our waters off Sydney.
