We had Dave, Mel from South Australia, Jonathan, Craig and Ken with us for half day offshore reef fishing. The sea conditions were good with less than a metre swell and light wind.
The best fish on the day were half a dozen flathead but also a dozen mackerel. We like mackerel. And the reason is that we handled them carefully, i.e. bleed on capture, quickly clean and put them on ice or in slurry of sea water and ice. That keeps them in nice and firm conditions until you put them on the barbecue, in a smoker or cook any other way you prefer.
