Tony is very happy with a box of flathead

As you may know, flathead can be fished for in a variety of ways. We are using dead baits like strips of fresh fillets, pilchards or some of our gusts insist on using meat. The trick is to let the sinker drag on the bottom or retrieving the bait slowly over the seabed.
Flathead are lazy fish who lie on the sand bottom and wait for their prey to come by. It’s not a sport fish but very good eating. We had some tempura fillets the other night and it was excellent!
We are catching flatties all along the Royal National Park, sometimes in close in about 25 metres and sometimes out to 70 metres. Every day is different so it pays off to try different techniques every time.
